Skeleton Clock

This is an attractive cathedral clock - a replica of Westminster Abbey  by Evans. Striking full hours on a gong to the rear and passing half hour strike to a bell above it also has pull repeat. Apart from the usual two main frames it also has one large front frame carrying the dial and a further frame in the shape of a porch, with steps below . Two small plates are on either side of the main frame. These are inscribed Bell Brothers of Doncaster.

Height 24"

Clock Parts

The first part of the work was to note all pivot holes and work out a train count for both sides to suit the original holes. Note - no holes have been filled on this clock but two holes has been added to accommodate the maintaining ratchet arbor.

The next step was to consult reference books to get an idea as to the shape of items such as hammer heads, front and rear cocks etc.

The porch caused a slight problem. We decided to scan a picture of the original Evans clock and print it out at the correct size to suit the main clock plates. The next step was to cut out and copy onto yellow cast brass.

Note the piercing out on the star wheel and snail Clock Dial

Clock Pendulum

Rear of Clock

All wheels are six spoke and it has a rear external adjustable fly. The bell was cast and cleaned up on a former in the lathe.

The pendulum is not as per the original but is again the customers choice.

Clock Parts

To the best of our ability we have tried to keep this clock close to the original. The dead beat escapement was not our choice.

A glass dome has been sought and an ebonised base inlaid with brass is being made.

I hope this takes a while for I now have to put the final polish to all parts and lacquer where needed.
